Wednesday, June 25th, 2014 5:26:20 by Maleeha TareenSpain has returned this morning to Colombia 691 archaeological pieces that summarize three millennia of Colombian history and had been illegally purchased by drug traffickers. The valuable stash was found in 2003 when police raided the home of a band dedicated to money laundering and drug trafficking. In operation 29 people were arrested and 885 objects were seized.
The archaeological collection was deposited at the Museo de America. The vast majority were from pre-Columbian cultures of Colombia, whose ambassador, Fernando Carrillo, today officially received delivery from the Director General of Police, Ignacio Cosidó. “It’s almost a museum delivery returning to Colombia,” he said.
The remaining pieces have not yet been identified with certainty, although the head of the Heritage Police brigade said that could come from Ecuador and Panama. Through Interpol, investigators are now trying to determine the exact origin similar to formalize arrangements to return, supported by a statement of the Central Court number 5 of the National Court.
