Ramazan starts on Monday in Pakistan
Sunday, June 29th, 2014 8:39:37 by Nadeem BajwaThe Ramazan crescent has been sighted in Pakistan and majority of the Pakistanis will start the blessed month of fasting from Monday June 30, 2014. Mufti Munibur Rehman, chairman of the central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee had announced on June 28 that moon was not sighted in any part of Pakistan. However, unofficial local moonsighting committee of Mufti Shahabuddin Populzai claimed that he received 40 credible moon sighting witnesses in the tribal area so the first day was on Sunday June 29, 2014.
Mufti Munibur Rehman, chairman of the central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced on June 28 that no credible evidence from any part of Pakistan was received, and thus first day of Ramazan will be on Monday June 30, 2014.
This is not the first time in Pakistan that Mufti Populzai declaration has divided the nation on this important religious occasion. Central Ruet-i-Hilal committee made the announcement around 9:30PM whereas Mufti Populzai declared sighting of crescent at almost midnight.
Khyber Pakhtunkhawa zonal Ruet-i-Hilal committee had said that some unconfirmed reports of crescent sighting were received but those could not be confirmed by the time the meeting was concluded.
Ramazan 1435 has already started in other parts of the world. In some part of the United States and Canada, Muslims fasted on Saturday following the announcement of ISNA based on calculations. However, majority of Muslims has started their first day of Ramazan on Sunday.
Muslims in Saudi Arabia and Middle Eastern countries also started the fasting from Sunday June 29, 2014.
