Arsalan Iftikhar forced to resign as vice chairman of Balochistan Investment Board
Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 8:16:00 by Nadeem BajwaArsalan Iftikhar who was recently appointed as the vice chairman of Balochistan Investment Board has been forced to resign on Wednesday July 3, 2014. Arsalan Iftikhar is the son of the former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary.
There was strong criticism and opposition from the civil society activists, media and political parties against the appointment. However, Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik, had earlier tried to justify the appointment and had said whoever has objections on the appoint should talk to him directly.
Arsalan Iftikhar tendered his resignation by fax to the chief minister and the chief secretary explaining his reasons behind his decision to step down as the vice chairman of the Balochistan Investment Board.
It has been reported that government had asked Arsalan Iftikhar to resign after Dr. Abdul Malik faced strong opposition from within his own political party. National Party Chief Senator Hasil Bizenjo had told reporters that Arsalan Iftikhar’s appointment was wrong.
Arsalan Iftikhar said that some politicians were defaming him for their personal gains. He further said that he was under lot of pressure due to allegations against him.
