Iran Wants to Help Pakistan in the Energy Situation
Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 11:06:38 by Ahmad MehdiThe Iranian Consul General, Hassan Darvesh Wand, addressed the media on Wednesday while he was in Peshawar. He said that his country fully understands how Pakistan is going through a difficult period in terms of energy and they want to help in this situation. He stated that the Pak-Iran gas pipeline is being set up for the same reason.
He made it clear that Iran has nothing to do with the US reservations surrounding the gas pipeline.
The Iranian diplomat was speaking to a group of journalists who were led by the Peshawar Press Club president, Nasir Hussain.
Pakistan and Iran have enjoyed their fair share of alliance in the past. According to the Iranian diplomat, if the Pak-Iran gas pipeline can be made a reality then the relationship between the two countries is going to bolster. He believes this is the reason why few external powers are trying that this project does not take place.
However, he claimed that both the countries should think about the interests of the people living in the country and not fall prey to foreign pressures.
He revealed that the current trade between the two countries amounts up to $3.5 billion; however, he thinks that this can be improved to $5 billion easily. He said, “We wish the business to be boosted up to $15 billion but the dream could not be materialised so far due to some weakness on both the sides.”
