Sialkot Makes Footballs for at least Half the World
Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 11:09:00 by Ahmad MehdiBack in 1889, a British sergeant requested a saddle-maker in Sialkot to fix his punctured football. After being pleased with the result, he decided to give the saddle-maker a few more to make. By 1982, Sialkot started supplying footballs so they can be used in the World Cup.
Today, more than 100 firms make footballs in the small city of Pakistan. The city has a population of 1.6 million. However, currently the city is facing strict competition from China and a team of researchers believe that if the efficiency of firms in Sialkot can somehow increase, they can definitely beat their competition and take over the production of more than 60% of footballs in the world.
The last time Pakistan came into picture was during the FIFA World Cup 98. History states that many legendary footballers were able to play with the ball which was made by Pakistan back in 98 and they even lauded the efforts made by the South Asian country.
However, this time things are far more different. Pakistan has managed to introduce a new technology in terms of making footballs. They have created the Brazuca for the FIFA World Cup 2014 and so far every single player has said something positive about the ball.
