Commerce Minister vow to make Gwader regional trading hub
Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 2:25:13 by Nadeem BajwaFederal Minister for Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, has said that Pakistan Commerce Ministry is playing an active role in economic development Balochistan while addressing the meeting of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to review the quarterly performance.
The Minister said that us of Gawader port by Trading Corporation of Pakistan for import of urea is the only source of income for the port. He said that last year 17 out of 28 ships carrying imported urea fertilizer docked at the port of Gwadar.
The Commerce minister said that 40 per cent of the cargo arriving at the Gwadar port is allocated to the Baloch transporters which is the source of income for thousands of people. He said that the Ministry of Commerce is devising a commercial strategy focused on making Gawader the regional trade hub that would generate employment opportunities in the province.
The Minister said that Gwadar port development and an increase in the movement of ships would open up new avenues of economic growth in Balochistan. The Minister noted that currently only commercial activity of the port of Gwadar was imports by the TCP.
Khurram Dastgir Khan further said that Gwadar port can play a vital role in the trading activities of Pakistan but also can provide cheaper and shorter alternative trade routes to the other countries in the region.
