Inspector General Sindh Police Iqbal Mehmood sacked
Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 2:49:07 by Khalil KhanSindh government has appointed Ghulam Haider Jamali as Acting Inspector General of Police on Monday July 7, 2014. He has replaced Iqbal Mehmood who has been asked to report to the Establish Division.
It is reported that Sindh government has returned the services of Iqbal Mahmood to the federal government and issued the notification of the appointment of Ghulam Haider Jamali as the Acting IG Sindh Police with immediate effect.
The Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon had earlier told reporters that Sindh governmnet has refused to accept any of the names proposed by the federal government for the post of the Inspector General of Police. The federal government suggested Mir Zubair, Rafiq Hussain and Khan Baig for the IG post. Sharjeel Memon said that federal government should not try to impose its decisions on Sindh government.
A local newspaper has reported that Inspector General of Sindh Police Iqbal Mehmood has been removed from the post because he refused to oblige a highly influential personality regarding the purchase of arms, ammunition and APCs worth Rs.8 billion. Sindh Chief Secretary Sajjad Salim Hotiana had denied the allegations.
Former chief secretary Aijaz Chaudhry and Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Sindh, Syed Mumtaz Shah, were also sacked from their positions due to refusal to approve the controversial purchase from a particular vendor, the newspaper claims.
