The escalation in the Gaza Strip continued on Sunday morning with further exchanges of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist militias. Hamas announced the deaths of six of its members in the collapse of a smuggling tunnel in the town of Rafah, along the border with Egypt. According to the Palestinian news agency Maan, the collapse was due to an airstrike. The Israel Defense Forces declined comment this point and only recognize nine night bombing 14 rocket launchers and other missiles, centered on northern Gaza. Three other Palestinian militants, a Hamas and two other organizations, were killed in the bombing, according to sources in Gaza, also hit the south. This brings to nine the total number of casualties and makes the day in one of the bloodiest since the Great Defensive Pilar Israeli military operation in late 2012.

Army focused its attacks in northern Gaza where, according to Palestinian sources, four civilians were injured in the town of Beit Hanun. Islamist militants launched, meanwhile 12 mortar and rocket attacks that hit Israeli territory, injuring a soldier. Left Gaza on Sunday 40 other projectiles.

Tensions rise between Israelis and Palestinians since the disappearance, on 12 June, three Jewish students of religion. Their bodies were found on last Monday in the West Bank. Their captors shot them shortly after kidnap. After the massive burial of the three boys in Modin, on Tuesday broke civil unrest and persecution against Palestinian residents in Jerusalem. Hours later came the charred body of a Palestinian youth in the city. As known so far, a group of right-wing Israelis burned him alive in retaliation for the deaths of the three students.  Also on Wednesday in which his body was found in occupied Jerusalem started a wave of protests as not seen since the end of the second Intifada, almost 10 years ago.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to do “whatever it takes” to restore security to communities in southern Israel, which borders Gaza. He also warned his cabinet to right of escalating violence between Israel and Hamas wing. Netanyahu insists and assures containment of Hamas militants that Israel “will respond with silence to silence” of weapons. Days ago that Egyptian mediation in negotiations is known to return to a ceasefire. Neither Netanyahu nor Hamas seem interested to continue climbing, but the facts point to a worsening situation in the area.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri accused Israel of “serious violent escalation” and has threatened to retaliate for Israel to “pay the price”.
