Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 7:40:27 by Maleeha TareenThe price hike spree of LPG marketing companies in the country shows no sign of coming under control as LPG prices have been increased for the third consecutive day. After the most recent raise, the price of LPG cylinder for domestic use has now increased by Rs200 during past three days.
LPG marketing companies today increase the price by Rs 5 per kg for domestic cylinder and by Rs 50 to Rs 200 in the price of commercial cylinder.
Chairman All Pakistan Distributors Association, Irfan Khokhar, termed the price hike in the LPG illegal and unjustified. “The marketing company nowadays on a looting spree, effecting unjustified raises in LPG on their free will, putting a challenge to the concerned authorities including the OGRA to come in action,” Khokhar told reporters.
Irfan Khokhar said that LPG distribution companies has called an emergency meeting to decide the next course of action against the price hike. He said that we are also planning to stage sit-in in front of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority if no action is taken to fix the issue.
“Everywhere in the world, the prices of commodities are reduced at the time of religious festivals, but here, we see otherwise”, added Irfan Khokhar. “The government needs to take notice and ensure LPG prices at affordable level for the month of Ramzan.”
After the recent raise in the LPG prices by marketing companins, LPG is being sold in Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot at Rs 120 per kg of LPG, and in the Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Kohat and Peshawar Rs 125 per kg is being sold.
