Cricketers meet Finance Minister to resolve tax issues
Wednesday, July 9th, 2014 8:22:10 by Khalil KhanPakistani cricketers who were heavily taxed by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had approached the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to resolve the income tax issues. It is reported that Ishaq Dar refused to provide any relief in the tax matters but assured the cricketers to consider their legitimate demands.
National cricket team captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali had a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, to raise their concerns about the income taxes notices sent to the national team players by FBR. The cricketers told the finance minister that cricketers have only 5-6 years of professional life so 10% of income tax rate is appropriate for taxing the cricketers’ income.
Cricketers requested the finance minister to get their income tax issues for the past four years resolved with the FBR.
The Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that paying income tax is the national obligation of every Pakistani for the development of the country. The Minister, however, told the cricketers that their genuine demands would be accepted.
Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali and Taufiq Umar had received notices from FBR to pay heavy amounts as additional taxes on their undisclosed income during the past years.
Misbah-ul-Haq was directed to pay additional tax of Rs3.2 million for the year 2010-11. Mohammad Hafeez received notice to pay Rs4.2 million for the two years.
Azhar Ali was asked to pay Rs1.5million and Taufiq Umar was directed to pay Rs1.2million.
The cricketers claim that Pakistan Cricket Board deduct the tax from their incomes and they have paid the taxes and collecting additional taxes was not right. The additional taxes levied on the cricketers are from the income earned from other sources such as advertisements etc.
