Pakistan Army says 80% of Miranshah cleared
Wednesday, July 9th, 2014 9:39:06 by Jamshed SindhuGeneral Officer Commanding (GOC) 7th Infantry Division Miranshah, Major General Zafarullah Khan on Wednesday July 9m2014 told reporters that Pakistan army has cleared 80 per cent of Miramshah during Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
Major General Zafarullah Khan said the army was facing opposition from the Taliban militants in some areas of North Waziristan. He said that there was evidence of presence of Al Qaeda in the region.
The General said that foreign and local militants were living the area who are being targeted by the Pakistan Army with utmost effort to avoid any civilian casualties.
The army officical said that Hafiz Gul Bahadur who is known to have links with notorious militant groups in tribal North Waziristan, including the Haqqani network will be eliminated if sighted.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that Jet fighters carried out airstrikes on suspected militant hideouts destroying three of them while 11 suspected militants were also killed earlier today during the Zarb-i-Azb operation.
Pakistan Army also allowed the national and international reporters to visit Miramshah, the main town in North Waziristan, to witness the destroyed militant hideouts and training bases and explosive device making factories.
Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, also met with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad to discuss the operation Zarb-e-Azb. General Raheel briefed the prime minister about progress in the ongoing military offensive against the militants in North Waziristan. Nawaz Sharif expressed his satisfaction on the operation.
