Punjab Minister for Anti-Terrorism Col. (Retd) Shuja Khanzada has told reporters that seven suspected militants are killed in an armed clash with security forces during a search operation early Thursday in a compound situated in Lahore’s Raiwind Road area. However, later it was reported that one was killed and one injured in the armed clashes. One elite force personal also lost his life in the line of duty and six security forces personals were also injured. The clashes are still continuing and police has warned the area residents to stay inside their homes.
CCPO told reporters that one terrorist was killed during the serucity forces operation which lasted for 10 hours. One militant was severely wounded who later died in hospital. One of the terrorist has been identified as Ahsan Mehboob who was a resident of Hujra Shah Maqeem Chak 18D.
According to reports, security forces launched a search operation in the Araiyan Pind near Raiwind Road after receiving a tip about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. The security forces surrounded the compound in which the militants were hiding at 2:00am early Thursday.
The clash began when security forces, acting on a tip off regarding the presence of suspected militants in a compound in the area, conducted a search operation in Araiyan Pind near Raiwind Road. The location is only at a distance of 2 kilometers from the residence of Nawaz Sharif in Raiwind.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Nawaz Marwat said that intense clashes erupted between police and terrorists who used arms and ammunition against the police. Militants also fired rockets on the security forces. One elite force personal died after getting shot as the result of intense firing by the militants.
Security forces have asked the local residents to remain inside their homes and avoid coming out or even going on the roofs as the clashes between the militants and security forces are still ongoing. Rangers have also joined the police force to combat the terrorists in the area.
All the roads leading to the area in which the terrorists are hiding have been blocked and area is cordoned off.
Col. (Retd) Shuja Khanzada told reporters, “There will be terrorism in every city, town and village” “Terrorists are targeting everyone. Long marches need to come to an end as wiping out terrorism is the number one priority,” he added.
