US embassy official carrying pistol detained at Islamabad airport
Friday, July 18th, 2014 1:20:56 by Maleeha TareenAirport Security Force personals detained a passenger at Benazir International Airport who was carrying loaded 9 mm pistol and 15 bullets in his luggage while trying to board flight from Islamabad to United States visa Abu Dhabi on Thursday July 17, 2014. The passenger was shifted to police station for further investigation and later released on personal bail.
It is reported from Islamabad that a United States national was arrested at Islamabad Airport after the Airport Security Force (ASF) officials discovered 9mm loaded pistol and 15 bullets in his luggage. The US citizen identified as William John is employed at the US embassy in Islamabad as trainer. He is also serving in the United States army in the rank of Major.
ASF handed over the detained US embassy official to the local police for further investigation. It is not clear that why the US embassy employee was carrying a loaded pistol in his luggage.
US Embassy spokesperson told reporters that embassy officials are in constant contact with the relevant authorities and efforts are being made for the release of the detained embassy employee.
Recently an FBI agent, Joel Cox, was arrested at the Karachi Airport with bullets in his luggage. He was later released by the local court as did not carry arms and only bullets were found.
