Pakistani cricketers raised Rs20 million for North Waziristan IDPs
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014 9:36:19 by Shakira SubhaniPakistani cricketers played a T20 match in Multan to raise Rs20 million for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)due to ongoing Pakistan Army operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan on Monday July 21, 2014. Multan Tigers lead by former captain of Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, lost T20 match by 15 runs against the Pakistan XI team.
Twenty overs match was played at the Multan Cricket stadium on Monday night between the Multan Tigers and Pakistan XI. Cricket fans came to support their players and help them collect funds for IDPs.
Pakistan XI captain Faisal Iqbal elected to bat first after winning the toss. Pakistan XI players scored 195 in 20 overs at the loss of five wickets.
Multan Tigers could only manage to score 180 after losing six wickets in the allotted twenty overs. Inzamam-Ul-Haq was adjudged LBW on the first ball he played.
The exhibition cricket match helped to raise Rs20 million for the Punjab Chief Minister’s fund for IDPs. Inzamam-ul-Haq donated Rs200,000 and an NGO for special persons contributed Rs100,000 to the CM fund.
Punjab minister for sports and law, Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan was also present to witness the cricket match. The minister distributed prizes among the players.
