PIA warned by Dubai Airport for missing schedules
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014 8:49:02 by Jamshed SindhuPakistan International Airline (PIA) gets second warning for “misusing” time slots without any prior intimation to the Dubai Airport authorities and may face financial penalties if PIA does not follow schedule in future as reported in media on Wednesday July 23, 2014. PIA is already in trouble at a number of other airports including Jeddah and European airports. PIA claims shortage of planes causing the problem, however, it is more of mismanagement by the PIA administration.
The warning from Dubai Airport is the latest issues PIA has created by not following the proper procedures. According to sources, PIA has received second warning from Dubai Airport stating, “It has failed to follow the correct procedure to update slots. This is deemed as misuse of the slots. We are adopting zero tolerance to such misuse.”
The letter from Dubai airport has warned PIA for serious consequences in the form of financial penalties. The letter further states, “If any further violation of this nature occurs, a fine may be imposed on the PIA.”
Pakistan national carrier has been in troubled waters for not operating its flights according to the schedule at other airports such as Jeddah airport and many European airports. However, PIA hides its mismanagement practices behind the excuse of non-availability of planes to operate according to the schedule.
Furthermore, it is the attitude of carelesness by PIA administration that aggravates the situation in some cases. Dubai Airport has also alleged that PIA did not bother to inform the airport authorities of the change in the aircraft or schedule.
