Electric Suppy restored in over 50 per cent of Karachi
Friday, July 25th, 2014 7:14:32 by Nadeem BajwaElectricity supply in more than half of the areas have been restored after a complete blackout in Karachi and many other areas of Sindh province after a technical fault in the national grid line as well as fire in the Jamshoro grid station on Friday July 25, 2014. The disruption of the electric supply to the water pumping stations has also resulted in stoppage of water supply to residents of Karachi. Karachi Electric supply is expected to be restored by end of the day.
Accroding to media reports, electricity supply was interrupted in Karachi’s areas of Saddar, Defence, Clifton, Burns Road, Lines Area, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Korangi, North Karachi, Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Liaqatabad and North Nazimabad after the tripping of National grid line and further compounded by tripping of the feeders in various parts of the city.
The power transformer at the Jamshoro grid station also caught fire making the situation worse in the province on the day of Jumatul Wida. Many other districts of Sindh were without electric supply as a result of fire at the Jamshoro grid station.
Karachi Electric has apologized to residents of Karachi and assured that electricity will be restored by the end of the day.
The breakdown of the electric supply system on this massive level indicates the poor status of the infrastructure in the country. A single fault in the electric supply system shut down the supply to the whole city of Karachi as well as large are of Sindh. It is not just the shortage of electricity supply it is also the aging distribution system that also needs to be upgraded to avoid such breakdowns in future.
