Pakistan Army to control Islamabad security for 3 months
Friday, July 25th, 2014 7:42:07 by Jamshed SindhuPakistan’s Mister of Interior Affairs, Chuadhry Nisar Ali Khan, has said in a press briefing in Islamabad on Friday July 25, 2014 that government has approved the measures to ask army under Article 245 of the Constitution to maintain law and order of the Pakistani capital for three months commencing from August 1, 2014.
Interior Minister told reporters the the decision to invoke Article 245 of the Constitution has be made after considering the security threats due to the ongoing operation in North Waziristan, Zarb-e-Azb. Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that army has been asked to take charge of the security of Islamabad from August 1.
The Minister said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has not submitted any application to seek permission to hold rally in Islamabad on August 14, 2014.
He said if PTI submit application for holding the procession in the capital, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will make the decision on it after coming back from Umrah.
The article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan authorizes the civil administration to call army personals to assist in the civil administration matters.
The validity of the decision by the Federal government to invoke article 245 cannot be challenged in any court of the country.
Furthermore, superior Court may not exercise any jurisdiction in relation to any area in which the Armed Forces of Pakistan are acting in aid of civil power in pursuance of Article 245.
Some analysts think that government’s decision to call Pakistan Army under Article 245 indicates civil administration’s failure to control the law and order situation in the country.
