Punjab CM visit Gujrat instead of appearing before Judicial Tribunal
Friday, July 25th, 2014 8:06:02 by Maleeha TareenPunjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif opted to visit Gujrat to see a boy whose arms were severed by a landlord instead of appearing in front of Judicial Tribunal to record his statement regarding the Lahore Model Town tragedy. One member Judicial Tribunal has extended the deadline by one day.
According to reports in media, Shahbaz Sharif had to submit his statement in front of the Judicial Tribunal comprising of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi on Firday July 25, 2014. However, the statement was not submitted.
Punjab Advocate General Hanif Khatana told the Tribunal that Shahbaz Sharif was out of town and visiting Gujrat to see a 10-year old boy who was victim of a severe brutality by a landlord. Boy’s arms were chopped by a landlord.
Hanif Khatana requested the Tribunal to allow extension of one day which the Tribunal accepted and a new deadline of 11:30am on July 26, 2014 is set for the statement.
The Tribunal is investigating the tragic incident of Lahore Model Town in which police fired direct shots on the protesters killing 14 and injuring 100 outside the residence of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri.
CM’s decision to visit a victim of brutal crime in Gujrat and avoiding giving statement regarding an incident in which 14 people including women died and over 100 wounded highlights his preferences regarding the law and order situation in Punjab.
