Database glitch delaying US visa and passport processing worldwide
Sunday, July 27th, 2014 10:59:39 by Jamshed SindhuTechnical glitch in database of United States (US) State Department that holds the information for issuing travel documents to forieng nationals and US citizens abroad is causing massive delays worldwide, said US State Department official Marie Harf said on Wednesday July 24, 2014. The problem was notices after the maintenance of the system and is not expected due to foul play.
Marie Harf, a US State Department spokeswoman told reporters that the problem was noticed during the routine maintenance of the Consular database. The significant performance issues are being faced in issuing the visas to foreign travelers and passports to US citizens abroad since Saturday. The database keeps the records of all the travel documents issued by the department.
Harf said, “We apologize to applicants and recognize this may cause hardship to applicants waiting on visas and passports. We are working to correct the issue as quickly as possible.”
The spokesperson clarified that problem was not localized a particular country and affected the global processing of the travel documents regardless of the visa category or citizenship documents.
Marie Harf acknowledge that the crash of the database is not result of any malicious action as it surfaced after the maintenance work, however, the root cause will be determined only after thorough investigation of the problem.
