Sunday, July 27th, 2014 8:28:25 by Shakira SubhaniIslamabad administration raided the Cineplex on Saturday July 26, 2014 for violating the Ehteram-i-Ramazan Ordinance which prohibits screening of movies during the Iftar and Traveh times in the holy month of Ramazan. The cinema was sealed for indefinite time.
It is reported from Islamabad that Abdul Sattar Esani, additional deputy commissioner general, sealed the only cinema in the Pakistani capital on Saturday after receiving complains from citizens about screening of the movies during the hours of Iftar and Traveh.
Abdul Sattar Esani said, “Following a complaint by a citizen, we raided the Centaurus shopping mall and sealed Cineplex for showing film during Ramazan.”
“At the moment, I can’t say when the cinema will be reopened. Besides fine, the cinema could be sealed for a maximum of six months under the ordinance,” added Esani.
The management of the cinema has the notice on its website saying, “Kindly note Centaurus Cineplex has been closed as per DC’s orders till further notice.”
Residents of Islamabad most likely will not have any place to go for entertainment during the Eid celebration as Cineplex is the only cinema in the city.

It is surprising that most other Muslim countries treat the holy month of Ramadan as a time for celebration along with prayer and fasting. They sing and dance and also throng the markets all night. On the other hand we treat this time as one of gloom and doom. While all sorts of anti-social evils such as over-charging, corruption, thefts, murder, rape, torture continue unabated entertainment is forcibly denied. The killjoy spirit of the late unlamented military dictator clearly lives on, as does the influence of one of our big Muslim brother country!
