United States condemns Russian military escalation
Sunday, July 27th, 2014 12:12:04 by Khalil KhanThe tragedy of flight from Malaysia Airlines has not silenced weapons in Ukraine. United States yesterday accused Russia of Vladimir Putin of provoking an escalation by launching rockets from Russian territory against Ukrainian positions and transfer of heavy weapons and troops near the border between the two countries.
If the allegations are true, would indicate that just over a week after the downing of an airliner flying over Ukraine, hostilities, far from being reduced, have increased. The administration of President Barack Obama believes that the clash, which began last February following the change of government in Kiev and the secession of the Crimea, is not just a civil war between Ukrainians but a war between two countries, Russia and Ukraine, neighbors and members, until 1991, the Soviet Union.
Until now, Moscow accused Washington of fueling the conflict with military training and aid to insurgents dissatisfied with the pro-Russian pro-European orientation of Ukraine’s current leaders. Now he goes further and accuses the old Cold War rival to participate as a party in a crisis that, beyond financial and economic sanctions adopted in recent months, President Obama is reluctant to intervene militarily.
“We have detected, according to some information on social media and broadcast reports of the intelligence community, which have soared Russian heavy weapons from the Russian side of the border to the Ukrainian military personnel,” said Josh Earnest, White House spokesman. “This represents an escalation in the conflict.”
The charges coincide with those made in recent days by the Government of Kiev, which also blames Russia for demolition this week, two fighters from Ukraine. In recent days the Ukrainian forces have made good progress against the rebels. Russia denies supplying arms to separatists.
At a conference in Aspen (Colorado), General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Putin as head of the military exonerated some Russian military commanders. “The leaders I know are probably reluctant to get involved in this form of warfare,” he said, referring to border incursions and the use of irregular forces fighting on behalf of Russia’s delegation.
At the same conference, the U.S. ambassador to NATO, Douglas Lute, said Russia has concentrated up to 15,000 military near the border with Ukraine, reports Reuters. The Pentagon also maintains that Russian forces also feature in this region of launch systems like missiles that on 17 July served to bring down the plane of Malaysia Airlines.
“We believe they are able to transfer the equipment at any time, at any time,” he told a press conference Colonel Steve Warren, spokesman for the Department of Defense.
In parallel to the real violence in eastern Ukraine, the war of words between Washington and Moscow has continued to flare up. US blames Russia have given the insurgents the missiles that were used to bring down the plane of Malaysia Airlines and had trained rebles to use the missiles. He also blamed the country to disrupt the field research on the causes of the attack. Now Putin accused of lighting a fire with unpredictable consequences, according to the Pentagon.
“What really concerns me is that, once this fire in a remote part of Eastern Europe is let, is not limited to Eastern Europe,” said Gen. Dempsey. ” And I think it is a real risk.”
