Mobile Phone Service Suspended in Islamabad Red Zone
Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 8:40:13 by Shakira SubhaniPakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked the mobile companies to suspend the phone services in the Islamabad Red Zone Area after receiving instructions from the Interior Ministry. The suspension of mobile phone services will remain in effect until further notice. Security threats on August 14 is cited as the reason for shutting down the cell phone services.
The mobile phone services including the wireless internet will not be available in the Red Zone Areas of Presidency and Convention Center Islamabad (i.e. area starting from Margalla Road to Kashmir Chowk and China Chowk till Quaid-e-Azam University) from 7:00 PM on Tuesday August 12, 2014 till further notice.
The Interior Ministry instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to suspend the services after receiving reports from the intellegence agencies of possible terrorist incident on August 14 Independence day celebrations and long marches of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek.
The cellular phone users in the surrounding areas of the Islamabad Red Zone will also be affected.
