Government writes to SC Registrar to probe election rigging
Wednesday, August 13th, 2014 7:34:55 by Jamshed SindhuAccording to reports from Islamabad, government has written a letter this Wednesday August 13, 2014 to the Registrar of the Pakistan Supreme Court to form a judicial commission to investigate the allegations of rigging in the 2013 elections. It is expected that names of the 3 judges will be announced later today.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced to form a commission to probe the alleged fraud in the elections 2013 comprising of three judges of the supreme court during a televised speech on Tuesday while responding to the mounting pressure by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan.
According to sources, the Registrar of Supreme Court has submitted the letter to the Chief Justice who is expected to form the commission later today. The commission will complete its investigations within 90 days to determine the truth behind the allegations of fraud.
Imran Khan has announced that he will accept any such commission only after Nawaz Sharif has resigned as Prime Minister. He also has said that nothing can stop his planned ‘Azadi’ march on August 14.
