Pakistan cricket team slips to 6th position in ICC ranking
Monday, August 18th, 2014 5:29:10 by Maleeha TareenPakistan cricket team had lost its third position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) test ranking and slipped to sixth position after defeat in the second text match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Monday August 18, 2014. Pakistani team lost the match by 105 runs.
Pakistani test players Sarfraz Ahmad and Wahab Riaz resumed the play on the final day of the second test match on Monday when the team still required 144 more runs to win the match.
Both the cricketers were able to resist the Sri Lanka bowlers for about one hour but were unable to avert the defeat in the second test. Saeed Ajmal was the last batsman who remained not out at 3. Junaid Khan did not bat as he was not physically fit after receiving blow on head during the first inning.
Sarfraz Ahmad was the top scorer for Pakistan with 55 runs after Asad Shafiq who scored 32.
Pakistan lost the two test series by 0-2. Pakistan was playing test series after break of seven months.
Rangana Herath was declared man of the match and man of the series after claiming 14 wickets in the second test.
Pakistan cricket team captain Misbah ul Haq said after the match, “I think we played good cricket in patches but credit should be given to Sri Lanka. Rangana Herath was terrific and I haven’t seen many spells like that in Test cricket”.
