NA rejects unconstitutional demand for PM resignation
Thursday, August 21st, 2014 3:33:15 by Shakira SubhaniMembers of the Pakistan National Assembly on Thursday August 21 adopted a resolution to reject unconstitutional demands for PM resignation by Pakistan Tehreek Insaf and Pakistan Awami Party and uphold the supremacy of the Constitution.
The resolution was moved to the National Assembly by Mahmood Khan Achakzai and passed unanimously by all the members present in the House.
The text of the resolution states: “This House rejects the unconstitutional demands from certain political parties for the resignation of the Prime Minister and the dissolution of the National Assembly and deplores the extremely derogatory, defamatory and inflammatory language used by leaders and members of these parties in their speeches.”
“This House resolves to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the sovereignty of Parliament, which embodies the will and the mandate of the people of Pakistan, and the prevalence of the rule of law. It reiterates its resolve to ensure that the democratic system continues to function and flourish in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.”
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present in the National Assembly to attend the session while PTI and PAT activists are staging sit-ins outside the Parliament House demanding his resignation.
