Pakistan overpowers Sri Lanka in first ODI by 4 wickets
Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 7:00:53 by Nadeem BajwaPakistan cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the first One Day International (ODI) on Saturday August 23, 2014 in the last over of the match by 4 wickets. The match was reduced to 45 overs due to rain.
Sohaib Maqsood was the star batsman in the Pakistan innings who added 135 runs with the help of Fawad Alam who scored 62 runs Sohaib Maqsood played excellent strokes to add 89 to Pakistan’s total of 277. Shahid Afridi hit the winning shot on the second last ball of the 45th over of the Pakistan’s inning.
The first one day international was delayed due to rain and 50 overs game was reduced to 45 overs. Pakistani captain Misbahul Haq won the toss and invited the host to bat first.
Sri Lankan team scored 276 for the fall of 7 wickets. Pakistan reached the target for the loss of 6 wickets in the 45th over.
Sohaib Maqsood was declared man of the match for his brillant knock of 89 runs. After wining the match, Misbahul Haq said, “Much needed win and relaly happy we have chased this total especially by two youngsters. One of the best partnerships I have ever seen.”
Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play two more One Day International matches. Pakistan lost the two match test series by 0-2.
