At least 33 dead in Egypt after two buses collide with tourists

At least 33 people died and 41 were injured early Friday because of the collision of two tourist buses near the town of Sharm el-Sheikh in South Sinai province, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health. So far, all fatalities are an Egyptian -seven have yet identificadas-, but there are four foreigners among the wounded, two Saudi national, a Yemeni and a Ukrainian.
The accident occurred on the road between the cities of Tor and Sharm el-Sheikh, one of the main tourist areas of Egypt with beaches and corals that are in the surrounding seabed. Most of the injured was rushed to International Hospital Sharm el Sheikh, while the rest is in the General Hospital of Sinai Tor. According to the Egyptian newspaper Youm al- Sabaa, twenty wounded, all Egyptians, and has been discharged. Both buses carried the route between Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh.
At present, the emergency services are still removing some of the bodies of the mass of iron in which the vehicles were converted, so even the exact number of dead people is not known, as told government newspaper Al Ahram of Mohamed Lashin, undersecretary of Health in the province of South Sinai. More than 30 ambulances have collaborated on the task of assisting victims. The highway was closed to traffic for three hours to allow the evacuation of casualties.
Egypt is considered one of the countries with the highest percentage of fatalities in road accidents in the world. According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), in Egypt an average of 12,000 people die each year due to traffic accidents. Experts say the poor condition of roads, poor signaling pathways, and recklessness of some drivers as the main causes of this high figure.
News of serious traffic accidents are common in Egyptian newspapers. The most serious accident occurred in November 2012 when a train ran over a school bus on a level crossing in the province of Assiut, killing more than 50 children.
