Libyan militants claim to have taken Tripoli airport

The announcement comes after the setback last night by the same militia in an air strike which killed 13 of its members. If the decision is confirmed the airport would be a great loss for the Zintan militia, to controls aerodrome since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
A spokeswoman of Dawn Libyan militia formed mainly of men arrived from Misrata, east of Tripoli, said after the announcement of the conquest made by television An Nabaa, akin to the organization, who have accessed inside the airport and are “cleaning up pockets of resistance.”
The aerodrome, 30 kilometers from Tripoli, Libya’s capital, is the subject of clashes since last July 13 between Zintan militiamen allied rebel General Khalifa Haftar opposed to the Islamists. Dawn Libyan militiamen organized a visit Saturday to press a military base near the airport to demonstrate that they had taken the complex.
Hadia Ahmed, spokesman for the Misrata militia blamed for the journey to aviation UAE and Egypt bombing their positions overnight. The attack killed 13 soldiers and wounded another twenty.
The General National Congress (CNG), legislative power until the parliamentary elections on June 25, also announced Saturday that he will resume his activities to “safeguard the country’s sovereignty ” and the lack of activity of the new Parliament, which met for first time on 4 August in the city of Tobruk.
