Pakistan Political Crisis: War of personal egos
Friday, August 29th, 2014 5:34:16 by Marina SherazPakistan Awami Tehreek and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have refused to back down from their demand of Prime Minister’s resignation during their meeting with the Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif on late Thursday night. The way resignation of Nawaz Sharif has become the core demand is apparently nothing but a war of personal egos.
After one to one meeting with General Raheel Sharif, PTI leader Imran Khan and PAT chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri have told their supporters that they have made it clear to COAS that nothing less than resignation of Nawaz Sharif is acceptable. Dr Qadri do not want to see even Shahbaz Sharif as Chief Minister of Punjab.
In the light of new developments, Shahbaz Sharif may step down as Chief Minister of Punjab as he also announced that he will resign if he is found responsible for the Model Town incident after investigation.
Nawaz Sharif on the other hand will not resign as Prime Minster as demanded by Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri.
PAT and PTI leaders may go to extreme extent in the absence of Nawaz Sharif’s resignation to speed up the process of ‘change’ or ‘revolution’ over the dead bodies of their workers.
The talks are destined to fail if initiated with condition of resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. It might be surprising that Imran Khan wanted the government to start negotiation with terrorist group Tehreek Taliban Pakistan without any conditions, but asking to start talks with Nawaz Sharif only after his condition of resignation is met.
Only time will tell where Imran Khan and Dr Qadri’s policy of ‘guilty’ until proven not guilty will take Pakistan during the next few days, however, one thing is obvious they are setting the course for their own demise from power when they get.
