Edhi Head Office Robbed, 5 KG Gold and Millions Taken
Monday, October 20th, 2014 12:39:29 by Hunain NaseerEdhi Foundation, one of the largest charities in Pakistan also fell victim to the poor law and order situation in the country after their head office in Karachi was robbed on Sunday.
According to reports, gunmen entered Edhi’s head office in Mithadar, Karachi, and held the philanthropist, Abdul Sattar Edhi and his staff hostage before making away with about 5 KGs of gold and millions in local & foreign currency.
At the time, Mr. Edhi was sleeping in one of the rooms in the office, and was woken up when gunmen demanded that he give them the keys to the storage cupboard.
“I thought they came to ask me about the Edhi centre but they started asking me about money. I don’t understand how they knew that everything was kept in the cupboard,” shared Mr. Edhi.
“The money and gold stolen belonged to those who entrusted me with it,” he went on to add.
Mr. Edhi’s son, Faisal Edhi also launched an FIR at the Karadar police station against unidentified persons, and confirmed that the head office was robbed by eight to ten armed men.
Mr. Faisal Edhi also claimed that the robbers took 5 kilograms of gold and millions in local and foreign currency, all of which belonged to the public.
The SHO of the Kharadar area was suspended and an investigation has been launched into the robbery. The Prime Minister has also condemned the incident and the police have advised Mr. Edhi to install CCTV cameras and take other security measures.
Currently, the police is investigating all leads and insider involvement has not been ruled out either.
