Tuesday, October 21st, 2014 10:55:30 by Hunain NaseerThe Police has reportedly managed to prepare computerized sketches of the armed robbers who looted the charitable Edhi Foundation’s Karachi office in Kharadar last Sunday.
Witness statements and nearby CCTV footage was used to prepare sketches of three men, who are believed to be aged around 39, 50 and 60 years.
Earlier, the Edhi staff reported that armed men barged into the Edhi centre and woke up Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi, the foundation’s head, to demand keys to the cupboard that stored valuables and cash.
The armed men broke the cupboard later to make away with millions in local and foreign currency along with 5 kilograms of gold, which, according to the philanthropist, belonged to the public.
The police had advised Mr. Edhi to set up CCTV cameras and arrange for more security at the foundation’s offices and the Prime Minister also took notice of the unfortunate incident.
Mr. Edhi is well known for his charitable and social work in the Pakistan, and his foundation is one of the largest charitable organizations in the country. They not only operate a huge ambulance network but also provide a lot of support to children, including education, vocational training and employment opportunities.
Investigation into the matter is underway and the police has not ruled out insider involvement in the heist.
