MQM to launch movement demanding 20 new provinces after Muharram
Monday, October 27th, 2014 11:06:28 by Hunain NaseerThe Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held a rally in Karachi on Sunday to mark what they termed a “black day” following PPP’s Khurshid Shah’s remarks regarding the use of the word “Mohajir”.
The senior PPP member and opposition leader in the National Assembly had stated earlier that the word “Mohajir” had become an insult, and should be avoided. His statement resulted in an emergency meeting by MQM leaders, who along with their supporters, condemned Khurshid Shah and termed his statement as a blasphemous act.
MQM leaders pointed out that “Mohajir” was a respectable and Islamic term, and calling it an insult should be charged under blasphemy laws of the country.
They party leaders and workers also took the opportunity to highlight issues of discrimination and injustice at the hands of feudal landlords in Sindh. Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui announced that MQM would launch a movement demanding 20 new provinces after the Islamic month of Muharram.
Dr. Siddiqui also claimed that the people who migrated from India were the rightful owners of the evacuated land in Sindh, since it was majorly owned by Hindus before the partition.
Other MQM leaders also spoke during the rally, including Dr. Farooq Sattar, who also highlighted the exploitation of Karachi’s resources by feudal landlords.
