Pakistan seeks clarification from US Ambassador over Alleged Pentagon Report
Thursday, November 6th, 2014 12:14:37 by Hunain NaseerYesterday the Pakistan Foreign Office had called up a meeting with the US Ambassador to the country, Mr. Richard Olson, in regards to a report by the Pentagon which alleged that terrorist operations in neighbouring India and Afghanistan are carried out from inside Pakistan.
The Foreign Office also raised concerns over these “unwarranted comments”, and the same was communicated to the US ambassador by Mr. Sartaj Aziz, who is the advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Tasneem Aslam, the Foreign Office spokesperson also stated that the unsubstantiated allegations from the US came despite Pakistan’s efforts towards mutual cooperation and eradication of terrorism.
“Pakistan has taken serious exception to comments contained in the US Department of Defence report sent to the US Congress under the title ‘Progress Towards Security and Stability in Afghanistan’,” Mr. Tasneem Aslam said.
The allegations come at a time when the Pakistan military is engaged in an anti-terrorism operation in the country’s northern Waziristan area, which was suspected to house militant elements.
The operation, which has been appreciated at the international stage, has largely been successful in eliminating terrorists and their hideouts.
Pakistan wants the US to recognize the effort and correct their stance on the matter.
