It is believed that the Inspector General of Police of Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera requested for support in the investigation.
The suicide attack took place at the Wagah Border flag lowering ceremony which is a daily practice and attracts large crowds from both Pakistan and India. People watch as soldiers from both sides parade, lower the flag and close the gates.
The suicide bomber targeted the Pakistan side of the event, and caused the deaths of over 60 people, including women and children, who were there for the ceremony.
It is believed that the High Crime Unit team is helping the Punjab police with Geo Fencing, which is a technique that involves isolating mobile communication signals within range of the blast side to locate suspects and new leads.
The interior ministry approved the operation, and the police sources revealed that all operational mobile numbers in the target area have been acquired and are being sifted through to identify potential suspects in the attack.
The attack has been condemned locally and internationally, and several different militant groups have claimed responsibility for it.
