United States Affirms that Pakistan’s Military Operation has Disrupted Militants
Thursday, December 11th, 2014 11:49:55 by Hunain NaseerWith delegations from both Pakistan and the United States meeting for the 23rd time under the US-Pakistan Defence Consultative Group (DCG), the US affirmed that the military operation conducted by Pakistan in the North Waziristan agency has dealt a blow to militants.
“Both delegations affirmed the significance of the Pakistan military’s ongoing North Waziristan operation, which the US side affirmed has disrupted militants,” read a statement made jointly after the meeting.
The two sides also discussed future cooperation for supporting Pakistan’s anti-terrorism operations and reimbursing Pakistan’s expenses after the Coalition Support Funds expire.
The DCG last met just over a year ago, and is part of the Strategic Dialogue Framework, which serves as a platform for both countries to discuss security concerns and defence policy making.
This Pakistan delegation was headed by Defence Secretary Lt. Gen (Retried) Alam Khattak while the US Secretary of Defence for Policy, Christine E. Wormuth headed the hosts.
This development will serve to further boost the improving US-Pakistan relations which were oft strained on account of militancy in the central Asian region. The two sides also discussed the improving situation in Afghanistan and United State’s plan for the security transition in the country post 2014.
