Horrific Attack in Peshawar School Leaves over 100 Dead So Far

In what is possibly the worst terrorist attack in the country, militants entered a school in Peshawar and held students and teachers hostage after opening fire and killing over a 100 people (unconfirmed) so far.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have reportedly taken responsibility for the attack, and according to their spokesperson, the militants who stormed the school include suicide bombers and target killers, who’ve been instructed to target ‘older students’.

The horrific attack is claimed to be in retaliation for the military operation in Waziristan, which has largely been successful in clearing terrorist havens and removing key militant leaders from the picture.

Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in all hospitals across Peshawar and a military operation is underway to secure the children, teachers and the school.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief Raheel Sharif are also headed to Peshawar to supervise the military operation themselves, while other high ranking officials, including the DG ISPR are present at the scene.

The school building has reportedly been badly damaged and rescue operations are also underway. According to initial reports, the attackers have been said to have entered the school premises from the rear and were wearing military uniforms.

Leaders of political parties, including the ruling PML-N and PTI have condemned the attack and are raising the importance of unity at such a critical time.
