KPK Schools to be named after Students of APS Peshawar
Wednesday, December 24th, 2014 10:25:51 by Hunain NaseerThe Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak, has announced that upcoming schools and other institutes built by the government in KPK will be named after the students who passed away in the Peshawar attack on Army Public School.
The attack which took place on December 16 was carried out by militants belonging to the Taliban, and claimed around 150 lives, most of them young students.
“The government schools and colleges will be named after the deceased schoolchildren in the areas they belong to,” said Mr. Pervez Khattak.
The KPK Chief Minister also emphasized on the return of Afghan nationals currently taking refuge in Pakistan. The current deadline for their repatriation is set at December 2015, but he urged the government to reduce it.
Candlelight vigils were also held later in the day and people gathered outside the attacked APS building to remember those who lost their lives.
The event of senseless violence and brutality against humanity left the whole country shaken and in mourning. The Pakistan government responded by lifting the moratorium on death penalty and speeding up the trials of terrorists held in jails.
Following the attack, people have been increasingly apprehensive of the security situation and have called for stricter measures and improved security, especially around educational institutions in the country.
