PM Nawaz Sharif Holds Meeting to Address Petroleum Crisis
Monday, January 19th, 2015 1:51:59 by Hunain NaseerPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting in the capital on Monday to address the growing petroleum crisis in the country, which has majorly affected Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting, which was held at the Prime Minister Houser in Islamabad was also attended by the Minister for Petroleum, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other related officials.
The Prime Minister reiterated his resolve to hold accountable those who are responsible for the crisis and the Minister for Petroleum briefed everyone about the crisis and what steps are being taken to resolve it.
Earlier, when Mr. Abbasi came under fire for the crisis, he denied responsibility and claimed that the shortage was not on account of any negligence from the ministry.
“How can I quit the ministry until proven guilty. I don’t consider myself responsible for the situation. I will myself resign if the government finds me guilty,” the Minister for Petroleum had said earlier.
The crisis which mainly started last week has worsened with every passing day as people lined up outside petrol pumps holding bottles and gallons. Several profiteers are also taking advantage of the situation and are selling petrol illegally and charging citizens more than the original price.
If the government does not overcome this crisis soon, the situation would only get worse and people may see a country-wide shortage, bringing everything to a halt.
