Petrol Shortage Situation Sees Improvement After Government Takes Action
Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 10:34:31 by Hunain NaseerThe petrol shortage crisis in the country is easing up after the government set up a ‘situation room’ to monitor sales and supply and the Prime Minister is expected to review the situation today in regards to the continued supply of petroleum over the next two months.
Several petrol stations in Lahore were reportedly servicing customers yesterday and the long queues outside pumps in Rawalpindi & Islamabad were also reduced to some extent.
The Prime Minister had earlier taken notice of the situation and reportedly cancelled his Davos trip for the World Economic Forum meeting to stay back and resolve the crisis which took the center stage last week.
He is now being kept apprised of the supply and demand situation by a special cell created in the petroleum ministry. It was also recorded that 11,500 tons of petrol was supplied to stations throughout the country yesterday, while another 4,500 tons was to reach last night.
According to the petroleum ministry, the crisis is being resolved due to vigilant monitoring and the situation will continue to improve over the coming days. Oil marketing companies have also been asked to make sure that a supply of 15,500 tons was sent daily to stations throughout the country.
The petroleum shortage during the last few days led to panic buying and huge queues outside stations. Several people also took to profiteering and selling petrol on the black market for exorbitant prices.
