Police & Rangers Expand Scope of Safoora Goth Bus Attack Investigation
Friday, May 15th, 2015 1:54:56 by Hunain NaseerBoth Rangers and Police are fully engaged in investigating Wednesday’s horrific attack on members of the Ismaili community, who were targeted by unknown armed militants as they traveled via bus.
According to officials widespread raids are being conducted in multiple areas of Karachi, including Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Orangi Town, while new eye witnesses have also been found by police.
DIG Munir Ahmed Shaikh also revealed that the police department is looking at the attack from all angles and investigating all possible leads, including suspected militant groups, banned outfits and militants recently released from jails.
He also shared that Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali has ordered expansion of the investigation and a probe into incident similar to the Safoora Goth bus attack.
Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo has also announced a Rs. 20 million reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the attackers.
The Rangers also claim to have arrested 145 suspects in the attack after raids carried out across the city. They have not however revealed the identities of those in custody. Investigation teams also visited the crime scene and took accounts of eye witnesses, some of whom reported that four attackers got into the bus while two to three remained outside.
The attackers shot dead most of the passengers in the bus at close range using what appear to be 0.9mm pistols. So far, 45 people have lost their lives in the attack which is being termed by government officials as a move by external forces to derail the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
