The senior party leader was intercepted in the Bahadurabad area by armed men riding a motorcycle, who opened fire on Mr. Godil with 9MM pistols.
According to the latest reports, the MQM leader, who was traveling with a relative and his driver has suffered injuries on his chest, arm and head and has been shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately Mr. Godil’s driver, who was also injured in the shooting passed away in the hospital due to his wounds.
The attack on Mr. Godil took place while both MQM and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) delegations were engaged in talks at the former’s headquarters at Nine Zero.
The talks were suspended after the news reached MQM’s headquarters and several party members showed their support for their wounded colleague.
Others who supported the wounded MQM party leader include PTI’s Shireen Mazari, according to whom such an attack would only be in the interest of enemies of Pakistan because aggravating MQM in Karachi would only worsen the country’s state.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has also sought a report from the Inspector General Police Sindh on account of the attack.
