Another Suicide Bomb Attack Rocks Istanbul, Turkey
Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 4:56:02 by modousarr10 people have been confirmed dead after a suicide attack in central Istanbul, Turkey while 15 are said to be wounded.
A statement issued by the governor’s office said investigations are on the way to figure out the cause and the perpetrators of the attack.
The attack is believed to have been carried out by a local Islamic State cell. Tourists are believed to be some of its victims.
According to state TV, it has been confirmed that the attack was indeed a suicide bombing that took place close to a park with a landmark obelisk near Sultanahmet square in Istanbul’s Faith district.
The explosion took place in one of Istanbul’s main sightseeing areas not far from the Topkapi Palace and the Blue Mosque which are frequented by tourists.
It took place around 10:20 am and the explosion was said to have been very loud and could be heard in nearby districts.
The victims were taken to hospitals nearby mainly Haseki Training and Research Hospital.
Turkey has been the victim of two bombings last year, the most recent of which saw the death of more than 100 people in twin bombings outside Ankara’s main train station in October and in July in the town of Sucruc near the Syria border with Turkey, which claimed the lives of 30 people. Both attacks are believed to be carried out by the Islamic State.
