Corruption In Pakistan On The Decline According To Transparency International
Wednesday, January 27th, 2016 5:49:39 by modousarrTransparency International, “TI” a global civil society organization listed Pakistan as the only country among the member nations of the South-Asian Association of Regional Cooperation commonly known as the “Saarc” community that made significant improvements in its Corruption Perceptions Index as compared to its scoring last year.
The other member countries all scored the same or less according to TI’s annual CPI report to be formally launched today.
According to Sohail Muzaffar, the chairman of TI Pakistan, Pakistan‘s score increased by one point to 30 on a scale from 0 (Extremely corrupt) to 100 (Virtually corruption free), and the country’s global ranking has moved up 3 places.
Although this is an improvement especially when compared to other Saarc countries, Mr. Muzaffar stressed that Pakistan should do better, by implementing and upholding a no compromise approach to corruption. He added that he hoped the recommendations suggested by TI would also be implemented by the government.
“Pakistan should have performed better, which can be achieved by having on-ground measures for the implementation of zero tolerance policies for corruption,” he added.
The good news is, global corruption although still a huge problem in most countries, is on the decline globally. The index measured the performance of 168 countries and it shows that more countries improved their scores than those that declined from their 2014 scores.
The best performer for the second year in a row is Denmark. Other notable improvements have been found in Guatemala, Ghana, Greece the United Kingdom and Senegal. On the other hand, Libya, Australia, Brazil, Spain and Turkey are this year’s notable decliners with Somalia and North Korea being this year’s worst performers.
