MYC Condemns Sindh Government Plans To Introduce Uniform Sermons For Friday Prayers
Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 6:31:41 by modousarrThe Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC) has condemned the Sindh governments plans to centralize Friday sermons for all Mosques in the province.
The MYC stated that the province was following Saudi Arabia in this regard and this is not correct.
Professor Ibrahim Khan, the head of the Khutbat-i-Juma commission said that it is not the governments place to decide what clerics decide to talk about during friday sermons.
He added the government should seek guidance from the Ulema to implement Sharia in Pakistan.
The Khutbat-i-Juma commission’s purpose was to minimize sectarian divisions and is formed of members of several sects.
Professor Khan lamented that Islamabad is attempting to politicize the Friday Khutba for its own ends. He cited flawed government policies and a system were the government “forces their voice and opinions” as “not fair”. He was responding to an Incident in Islamabad in which authorities shut down a mobile phone service to prevent a cleric from delivering a fiery Friday sermon.
He said this was a way to “manipulate their politics through the mosques. If a cleric doesn’t abide by it, then the government can use the law against him for not reciting the “certified” khutba”
The move was also criticized by the council’s president Luqman Qazi, deputy secretary general Saqib Akbar and others.
Professor Khan also expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision to set the time for the azan and prayers, stating that this should also include some assistance by the government.
Professor Khan went on to add “We say that even the president and the prime minister should attend all the prayer with the congregation in the mosques”.
