Trump Calls Pope Francis “Disgraceful”
Monday, February 22nd, 2016 6:49:58 by modousarrRepublican front-runner Donald Trump reacts to Pope Francis’ comments on his plan to build a wall along the Mexican border from Texas to California and deport all 11 million illegal migrants from the country.
The Pope, who’d just finished praying for the migrants who died trying to cross over the Mexico-US border just hours before, was asked about his opinion regarding Trump’s pledge to build a wall and he replied “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.”
The Pope, never having heard about Trump’s plans added “I’d give him the benefit of the doubt”. But later included “I’d just say that this man is not Christian if he said it this way.”
Trump pointed a finger at the Mexican government, accusing them of using the leader of the Roman Catholic Church as a “pawn”, and went on to say that he (Pope) had only “heard one side of the story.”
Trump, in his comments , also added “If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president.”
He further said, “No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith.”
The to-and-fro transpired on Saturday as the republicans confront South Carolina’s high stakes primary. Trump maintaining a sizeable lead in the South Carolina and few other states. Democratic contenders, Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders run a close race in the Nevada caucuses on Saturday.
One more success for trump or sanders after their wins at New Hampshire would prove that they are anything but trivial contenders. Republican Sen. Marco Rubio obtained the prized backing of South Carolina’s Governor Nikki Haley as he attempts to gain support of conventional Republicans.
While addressing the Pope’s comments on Thursday, Sen Rubio said “The Vatican city has a right to control its borders so does the United States. Rubio supported a pathway to residency for illegal immigrants in the U.S but now maintains that “ border security is the priority”.
Rubio, also a Catholic, went on to say that he “has tremendous respect and admiration for the Pope” and that “there’s no nation on earth that’s more compassion on immigration than we are.”
