Mullah Rasool In Custody
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016 9:06:01 by modousarrThe leader of a splinter group of the Afghan Taliban, Mullah Muhammad Rasool, has been detained according to two Taliban leaders on Monday. His succession was the result of break away from the initial Afghan Taliban group by members opposed to Mullah Aktar Mansoor’s leadership of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The two Taliban leaders, who spoke to The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity, did not say when Mullah Rasool was taken into custody but confirmed that he had fled recent infighting in southern Afghanistan.
The two Taliban sources who chose to remain anonymous, did not confirm if Rasool was in police custody, but they did mention that infighting, was the reason for him fleeing the south of Afghanistan.
It has been reported that as a result of infighting between Mulla Mansoor and Rasool loyalists, dozens of Taliban have been killed which includes Rasools brother and second in command, Mansoor Dadullah. Mullah Mansoor loyalists managed to capture the town of Khak-e-Afghan after heavy fighting.
What is clear however is that both sides have confirmed that Mullah Rasool has been taken into custody.
The two Taliban groups have been fighting eachother after a cease fire negotiated by scholars and elders in December failed to hold.
