84 Pakistani’s In The Custody of Russian Officials
Thursday, March 24th, 2016 9:52:25 by modousarrIt has been reported that up to 84 Pakistani’s have been detained at Moscow airport. The persons involved went to Russia on a business trip in a group of about 130 businessmen on a trip organized by a private company, to take part in an exhibition.
Reasons are yet to be released by Russian authorities for their detention.
It was reported that about 48 of them have already been deported while 84 remain detained.
Although some Turkish citizens also reported to have been detained by Russian authorities, they were later allowed to leave. A video posted on social media revealed the men lamenting about their plight and the fact that they did not know the reason for their detention.
Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia Qazi Khalilullah is actively seeking their release.
Meanwhile reports indicate that some of the men will most likely be deported today.
For his part Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has issued instructions to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to see to it that the detained country men are assisted in Moscow.
A Foreign Ministry official confirmed that the stranded group has been granted consular access by Russian authorities and are in constant contact with the Pakistani embassy in Moscow.
The foreign office also confirmed that they have been supplied with adequate food and drink and will ensure the return to Pakistan by the end of the day.
