India Seeks Reciprocity From JIT-NIA meeting
Thursday, March 31st, 2016 4:51:49 by modousarrA Pakistani probe team of five, on Tuesday drove from Amritsar to Pathankot in bullet-proof vehicles due to fears that using a plane will be too dangerous and increase the possibility of an attack. Their Indian hosts who were looking forward to reciprocity, proposed to seek access to a chief suspect in the January terrorist attack on a key Indian Air Force base.
It was on the 2nd of January that the border walls which The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) entered through a specially-built entrance was broken into by the armed gunmen on that night. They climbed the perimeter wall before attacking anything and anyone in sight.
The Pakistani investigative team “retraced the route of the terrorists” and has figured out the exact location where the terrorists killed a taxi driver and hijacked a Punjabi police officer’s car.
Secret sources are quoted as saying “they don’t know if Azhar, 47, is still in the country”. Reliable sources revealed to NDTV just last month that the suspect was “on the run”.
The chief of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), Sharad Kumar, told NDTV. “We will ask for access to Masood Azhar”, which leads us to believe that Reciprocity is being discussed.
He added, “A formal request would be sent after the five-member Pakistani team returned home.”
Protesters from the Aaam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress yelled catchphrases and mottos with black flags outside the base. Both parties seized the opportunity with this occasion to score extra points in the Punjab state polls due early next year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party is currently under heaps of criticism for allowing the Pakistani probe team to come in.
The Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra who also lead the AAP protest at Pathankot talked about ISI-BJP coalition and added: “The same people who have killed our people have come here…this is so shameful and disgusting.”
The chief of the ruling BJP, Amit Shah, reportedly responded to the criticism, by saying: “For the first time Pakistan has made serious effort towards investigation.”
This historic visit has opened the gates for a strategic installation amidst intense criticism from opposition parties.
During the visit, most of the base was completely covered with white curtains to stop the team from having seeing the important defence apparatuses.
The meeting between the JIT-NIA team lasted for about four hours after which they headed to Amritsar. Security was at its peak with the SWAT commandos of Punjab police providing security.
Security was provided and tightened all around the Pathankot Air Force station by the district administration. They set up heavy police force in the city and provided traffic-free route for the JIT.
