Pakistan Capable Of Winning Terror War, Obama Believes
Thursday, March 31st, 2016 5:19:48 by modousarrOn Wednesday, while dealing with Islamabad’s counter-terrorism determinations, President Barack Obama expressed the United States confidence that Pakistan will win in its current war against terrorism.
While on the phone with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Obama was of the belief that Pakistan has grown in its efforts to combat terrorism. The US leader had offered his condolences for the deadly suicide bombing in Lahore on Easter Sunday.
73 people in total, including women and children, were pronounced dead victims and servral others injured. The attack was as a result of a suicide bomber’s detonation near children’s swings at Gulshan-e-Iqbal, a public park in Lahore. The attack serves as one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s history.
A press release by the Prime Minister’s media office found the American leader to have said, “Under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, Pakistan has made great progress in the fight against terrorism. The United States believes Pakistan will succeed in this war.”
Prime Minister Sharif further went on to tell the Obama that he was of the notion that an invisible enemy was hunting down innocent people in the country and that it served as a weak link for terrorists to cause more destruction because of people’s broken frame. In spite of this, the PM maintained his resolve and belief that the resolve of the Pakistani nation to combat and eliminate terror was increasing daily.
“The Pakistani nation will win the war against the invisible enemy and its extremist ideology,” he added.
President Obama appreciated and supported the Prime Minister’s decision to not attend the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, holding this week and to instead stay in the country during these trying times.
President Abdullah Yameen of Maldives also expressed his heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Sharif over the phone on Wednesday for the loss of innocent lives in the Lahore attack.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, Nawaz communicated his belief to President Yameen that the terrorists’ plans involved attacking women and children as they were the softest and easiest targets, showing how they are on the run.
“Terrorism has become a serious global threat. We are determined to wipe out terrorism from our soil,” the prime minister added.
