Muslim Family evicted from United Airlines flight
Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 5:35:38 by fatimaarshadA Muslim family flying from Chicago to Washington D.C., was evicted from their United Airlines flight and now the family is seeking a formal apology from the carrier.
According to the details provided, the parents and their three children were on their way for a short vacation during the spring break but they were discriminated against during the flight, leading to a bitter start. The family explained that they only asked one of the crew members on how to secure a child booster seat, but after a short while a United Airline’s employee told them to leave the flight because of ‘a safety of flight issue’.
The family explained that they showed the booster seat at the gate but were told by the agent to carry it on board because of an error with the computer system. When they showed the booster seat to the flight attended, they were asked not to use it and they complied. After a while, the Muslim family was asked for their tickets and were told that they needed to leave the flight. When the father asked for a reason, he was told by the pilot; “Because it’s my decision”. The mother, who was wearing a headscarf, asked, “Is this a discriminatory decision? What is the reason?”, to which no one replied.
Meanwhile United Airline reps have maintained that the decision to off-board the family was based on safety issues of the booster seat and there was no discriminatory ground to that decision. The family was rebooked on a later flight.
